Statement from Mayor Bowser on White House’s FY 2021 Budget Proposal

Monday, February 10, 2020

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued the following statement on President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget proposal to Congress.

“This is not the budget Americans need or deserve. We need a White House that realizes that more and more Americans are unable to cover the cost of housing, food, and other basic necessities. Americans, especially our children, need better access to health care – not cuts to Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program. We have been fighting to give more residents pathways to the middle class, but this budget is simply a shot across the bow at the middle class.

“Mayors across America are doing all we can to give our residents the opportunities they deserve, to give people a sense of hope, and to rebuild a belief in the American Dream – in the idea that if you work hard and play by the rules, you’ll have a fair shot. As our partners in Congress move forward with building a budget that includes the investments Americans need – investments that support our people, our infrastructure, and our collective futures – here in DC, we will be working with House and Senate appropriators to ensure full funding for DC TAG, as we have successfully done every year. And we will continue our fight for full citizenship for our residents, which can only be achieved by DC Statehood.”
