Administration Calls On Community Members to Help Identify New Sites for MuralsDC Program

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Monday, June 12, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off the annual Great Graffiti Wipeout, an eight-week campaign to remove illegal tagging, such as prohibited graffiti, posters, and stickers in Washington, DC. Last year, the Department of Public Works cleaned more than 700 graffiti markings and removed over 2,000 posters and stickers from public spaces across the city. To prevent further illegal tagging, the Mayor will also announce this year’s expansion of MuralsDC – a collaborative initiative to replace graffiti-ridden walls with original works of art in all 8 wards.
As a part of the Back to Basics DC campaign, a celebration of the day-to-day work that keeps Washington, DC going, the Mayor will continue to highlight the work of DC government employees, showcase innovations in service delivery, and share information about how the community can help the government keep Washington, DC a great place to call home.
