Mayor Bowser to Join Ben’s Chili Bowl to Reveal New Mural

Tuesday, June 20, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Wednesday, June 21, at 12 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join the Ali family to unveil the new mural at Ben’s Chili Bowl. DC muralist Aniekan Udofia, who was selected by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, painted the mural which features 15 portraits of people who have made, or are currently making, a significant impact on Washington, DC. The trailblazers represented in the mural were selected by residents through an online contest initiated by Ben’s Chili Bowl earlier this year, in which over 30,000 votes were cast.

In 2012, Udofia created the establishment’s widely celebrated mural “Famous Faces,” which featured celebrities with close ties to the DC community. The mural went on to become one of the most photographed murals across the city. Ben’s Chili Bowl reached out to MuralsDC about doing a second mural and expressed an interest working with Udofia again. Ben’s Chili Bowl, known for their signature half-smokes, has become a landmark in the U Street Corridor and a historic place to visit across the metropolitan area.
