Highlights 80th Playground Built for DC Families

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Saturday, October 21, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will unveil the 80th playground built by KaBOOM! in the District to celebrate A PLAYce for Kids Day – a free celebration that will feature food, live music, arts, crafts, and a basketball clinic with the Washington Wizards. The grand opening of the KaBOOM! playground, which is the 3,000th playground constructed nationwide, will give 36,500 kids the opportunity to play at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) and continue the commitment to increasing the number of PLAYCes for DC youth who need it most.

A DC-based and national non-profit, KaBOOM! is dedicated to creating places for children to have active and safe places to play, specifically in low-income communities across the country. Since their founding in 1996, KaBOOM! has served more than 8.5 million children, and built or improved more than 16,700 play spaces across the nation. The first KaBOOM! playground was created in the District 22 years ago, and since then, KaBOOM! has engaged more than one million volunteers and thousands of community and funding partners who have played a vital role in this achievement.
