Mayor Bowser to Announce Investments in DC Public Schools for Fiscal Year 2018

Thursday, February 23, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, February 24 at 10:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Antwan Wilson to announce additional investments in DC middle and high schools in Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18). The investments will provide more exposure to STEM education, extracurricular activities, and opportunities for 8th grade students who need academic and social-emotional support to be successful in high school. The investments will also include career coaching, postsecondary planning, and collegiate tours and expositions for DCPS high school students. Furthermore, specific students who attend alternative high school will have access to personalized learning in all core subjects.

Since taking office in 2015, Mayor Bowser has made historic investments in DCPS to fund paid internships, high school career academies, and travel abroad programs for 8th and 11th  graders. The Mayor also introduced extended year at 11 schools, increased funding for school modernizations, and opened Ron Brown College Preparatory High School – the first all-male learning institution in Washington, DC.
