Accomplished Women in the Fields of Local Governing and Federal Politics Will Discuss their Experiences in Motherhood, Moderated by a Pioneer in National Media

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser announced Valerie Jarrett, former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, will join her in a luncheon conversation at Washington, DC’s first Maternal and Infant Health Summit on September 12. The conversation will be moderated by Cathy Hughes, the entrepreneur, radio, and television personality and business executive at Urban One (formerly Radio One).

“I’m so pleased to be joined by Ms. Jarrett and Ms. Hughes – two incredibly accomplished women who have taken on many impressive roles throughout their lives, but likely none as rewarding and challenging as motherhood,” said Mayor Bowser. “Their experiences in motherhood shaped the work they did, and their unique professional experiences can help us understand how to more effectively advance our approach to maternal and infant health.”

Valerie Jarrett has a depth of experience in both the public and private sectors and across the highest levels of government. During her tenure in the White House, Ms. Jarrett oversaw the White House Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls.

Cathy Hughes, Founder and Chairperson of Urban One, leads the largest African-American owned and operated broadcast company in the country. Urban One is the official media partner of Mayor Bowser’s Maternal and Infant Health Summit.

The agenda for the Maternal and Infant Health Summit will feature several panels with elected officials, health experts, and medical professionals. Throughout the summit, community-based nonprofits and organizations will provide information about their programs and services in the exhibition hall of the Washington DC Convention Center. The summit is free and open to the public. To learn more and to RSVP for Mayor Bowser’s Maternal and Infant Health Summit, visit dcmaternalhealth.com.
