Mayor Bowser Held #SpringIntoAction Community Clean-ups in All 8 Wards

Monday, March 23, 2015

(Washington, DC) On Saturday, Mayor Bowser and the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS), conducted community clean-ups in all 8 wards. Clean-ups were held in partnership with Serve DC and open to the public. Over 420 volunteers participated in community clean-ups.

“Through the RESULTS Initiative, my administration is proactively improving our neighborhoods by rallying together government agencies, residents and businesses to identify problems that can be immediately resolved,” said Mayor Bowser. “This is the essence of our fresh start commitment and a key component to engaging stakeholders in our efforts to create a pathway to the middle class for all residents of the District.”

This week’s #SpringIntoAction campaign was part of the recently launched Reaching Effective Solutions Using Lasting Tactics and Strategies or the RESULTS Initiative. The RESULTS Initiative kicked off with a week-long #SpringIntoAction campaign with MOCRS conducting neighborhood walk-throughs in all eight wards to identify issues that could be immediately addressed. Mayor Bowser launched the initiative at the Ketcham Elementary School in Ward 8 where the first neighborhood walk was held on Tuesday, March 17h.

“We are setting ambitious goals to engage the public and proactively administer services to residents,” said MOCRS Director Gregory Jackson. “In year one, we are expecting to connect with 83,000 residents and this week’s #SpringIntoAction participation shows that we are off to a good start.”

The R.E.S.U.L.T.S. Initiative consists of three key components:

  • Ward Core Teams, which is comprised of eight to 12 representatives from government agencies who work collaboratively to solve community issues or long-term challenges.
  • Neighborhood Results Walks, which are conducted monthly to instantly and proactively identify visual issues within the community.
  • Community Clean-ups which are volunteer-driven and organized by MOCRS liaisons.
