Mayor Bowser Announces Appointees to the Working Group on Jobs, Wages, and Benefits

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced her appointees to the Working Group on Jobs, Wages, and Benefits (WGJWB). Mayor Bowser initially announced plans for the working group during her 2016 State of the District Address and formally established the WGJB by Mayor’s Order 2016-083 on May 26, 2016. The WGJWB will draft recommendations to the Mayor and the Council on legislative, programmatic, and policy ways to improve the District’s economic competitiveness in the region, attract and retain businesses and employees, protect and promote commercial diversity, and create and preserve good paying jobs. The recommendations will be sent to the Mayor by the end of the year.

“The District succeeds when its working families get a fair shot. I have convened the Working Group on Jobs, Wage and Benefits to study, discuss and explore opportunities to support our workers while fostering an environment where businesses thrive,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “The appointees represent the best the District has to offer from government, business, and labor organizations. I look forward to their recommendations.”

The working group includes three representatives each from the executive branch, the legislative branch, labor unions and worker advocates, the business community, and the public:

Business Community Appointees

  1. Richard “Chip” Davis, Ph.D. – President, Sibley Memorial Hospital / Member, Johns Hopkins Medicine
  2. Miles Gray –  Founder, Smith Commons / Smith Public Trust
  3. Kim Horn – President, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc.

Public Member Appointees

  1. Dannia Hakki  – Co-Founder and Principal at MoKi Media
  2. Steve Nash, NHA – President and CEO, Stoddard Baptist Home Foundation
  3. Dayvie J. Paschall – DesignBuild Diversity Manager for DBE & EEO, Skanska USA Civil Inc.

Labor Unions and Worker Advocate Organizations Appointees

  1. Jaime Contreras – Vice President, 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
  2. Dyana Forester –  Community & Political Lead Representative, United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Local 400
  3. Delvone Michael – Executive Director, DC Working Families

Executive Branch Appointees

  1. Courtney Snowden – Deputy Mayor for Greater Economic Opportunity
  2. Brian Kenner – Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development
  3. Rob Hawkins – Deputy Chief of Staff, Executive Office of the Mayor

Deputy Mayor Courtney Snowden will serve as the Chairperson of the WGJWB. The Administration has been communicating with the Office of Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and expects the legislative appointees early next week.
